Why We Built in Amsterdam: Data Sovereignty as a Product Principle

Our commitment to EU data residency and what it means for our customers.

Data sovereignty is not a feature you add later. It is an architectural choice that shapes every layer of the stack.

When we founded CIPHER TECH, we decided that customer prompts and model weights would never leave the EU unless the customer explicitly chose to. That decision affects where we host, who can access our infrastructure, and how we design our data processing agreements.

What sovereignty means in practice

It means EU-based data centers, EU-based support, and contracts governed by Dutch law. It means no backdoors, no data mining, and no surprise transfers.

For our customers, it means they can tell their compliance officers exactly where their AI data lives.
